Upcoming Workshops
In celebration of National Poetry Month
Let’s gather some light together.
I wanted to share three upcoming poetry gatherings that I’ll be offering in the coming weeks. All three are very reasonably priced, thoughtfully curated, and designed to bring fresh air and new perspectives to your writing practice, as well as foster a much-needed sense of community. All levels of experience are welcome. Your presence is what matters.
It’s an honor for me to be working in partnership again this year with ASPS and One Art Poetry. I hope you’ll join us!
With gratitude,
The Whale-Road Workshop: Kennings as Poetic Device— in partnership with ASPS (Arizona State Poetry Society)
Saturday, March 7 at 12:00 pm Eastern (U.S.) via Zoom
Kennings date back to Old English and Norse poetry and are a type of figurative language that combines two words to creatively form an implied simile. In this fun and informative 2-hour workshop with dedicated writing time, we’ll explore the use of Kennings to lend strong imagery and unusual metaphor to our poems.
Cost. $20 for members/$25 for non-members. Click below for more information and to sign up.
Ghazal Workshop in partnership with ONE ART: a journal of poetry
Tuesday, April 7 at 1:00 pm Eastern (U.S.) via Zoom
In this instructive and generative 2-hour workshop, we’ll explore the Arabic Ghazal, its historical origins and cultural significance, as well the specific stanza structure and musical devices, including refrain, rhyme, and use of repetition. The second half of the workshop will be dedicated to discussion and writing time.
Limited to 15 participants.
Cost: $25. Click below for more information and to sign up.
